SHIELD-MDD10 is a 2-channel high power motor driver shield for Arduino. It is able to control two brushed DC motors or single bipolar/unipolar stepper motor from 7V to 30V. With discrete NMOS H-Bridge design, this motor driver is able to support 10 Amp per channel continuously without any additional heatsink.

Building a mobile robot with Arduino? Want to control high power stepper motor? Look no further! SHIELD-MDD10 is a 2-channel high power motor driver shield for Arduino. It is able to control two brushed DC motors or single bipolar/unipolar stepper motor from 7V to 30V. With discrete NMOS H-Bridge design, this motor driver is able to support 10 Amp per channel continuously without any additional heatsink.

The onboard test buttons and motor output LEDs allow functional test of the motor driver in a quick and convenient way. Buck regulator which produces 5V output is also available to power the Arduino mainboard. This eliminates the need of extra power supply for the Arduino mainboard.

This motor driver can be controlled with PWM and DIR inputs. The Arduino pins for these inputs are configurable via jumpers. If the specified pins on Arduino are already used up by other application/shield, you can select another pin easily with the jumper.

Various protection features are also incorporated in the SHIELD-MDD10. Overcurrent protection prevents the motor driver from damage when the motor stalls or an oversized motor is hooked up. When the motor is trying to draw current more than what the motor driver can support, the motor current will be limited at the maximum threshold.

Assisted by temperature protection, the maximum current limiting threshold is determined by the board temperature. The higher the board temperature, the lower the current limiting threshold. This way, SHIELD-MDD10 is able to deliver its full potential depending on the actual condition without damaging the MOSFETs.

Note: Power input does not have reverse-voltage protection. Connecting the battery in reverse polarity will damage the motor driver instantaneously.

    Hi Zebre, Thank you for your email. It's actually dependent on the type of motor used for the wheel drive robot. As long as it's DC brushed motor and the voltage/current rating meets the specification of the motor driver, there will be no problem to drive it.

    Hi Mustafa, thank you for your email. Yes, it can. The motor driver can support up maximum 10A continuously. However, this is maximum rating. The actual current is dependent on the motor and load itself. Thus, as long as your motor current is less than 10A, it will be safe to drive with the motor driver.
